These are the names of a few of the smaller islands belonging to Venice’s Lagoon, especially chosen to celebrate its most intimate side: islands where nature and tradition blend together, places where the authentic spirit of Venetian life still survives.
Bulwark of defense, a fisherman’s house, home to silent monasteries, a place of refuge for the sick and rest for the dead, covered in fertile orchards and vineyards or rich with industriousglass shops and lace; each island has its own vocation and its particular history.
A few of them, more than 1.500 years ago during the barbarian invasions, gave shelter to the exiles fleeing from the cities of the mainland. They are called “native” islands because they were the cradle of Venetian civilization.
Not far from the crowded Venice, surrounded by surreal and timeless atmospheres, they promise, to the few visitors who venture the charm of a stroll through nature and history, water and sky.
